Abstract – The major concerns of wildlife monitoring in today’s world is to make the system power aware and high performance which can be achieved by eliminating redundant information, achieving parallelism in processing the information, data compression and using dedicated hardware for events that occur regularly. This project aims at implementing an image comparison and compression algorithm on an FPGA, taking into account the image captured only when a living being moves in the range of Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor. The algorithm will compare the captured image with a reference image. If the similarity between the images meets the threshold value then the algorithm will forward it for compression. If they doesn’t it simply discards the image
